Management Mastermind Group

As a business owner and coach, one of my proudest accomplishments is the formation and success of our managers' Mastermind Group, or MMG. I officially began my new coaching business back in 2017, and after a couple of years, we had the epiphany that one of our greatest assets were the many talented managers, owners, and salespeople who were actively working all across North America, who are figuring out in real time how to navigate our ever-changing new home sales market. In my role as a coach and guide, we tried to figure out how to create a forum where this group can actively and comfortably engage and support each other in real time. In other words, how do we create a living, breathing Mastermind Group for new home sales and marketing?

We thought we would experiment by hosting a Zoom with all of the managers we worked with at the time, this was very well received, so we moved on to our first on-site meeting at one of our builders. This was back in 2019, and thanks to our first hosts, Josh Goldschmidt and Brian Busbee of Eagle Construction of VA, in Short Pump, VA. Special thanks for their early enthusiasm and motivation to help get our Mastermind group launched. We hired a bus and toured some of the Eagle Construction communities and models and met some of their excellent salespeople on the first day. That evening we toured their state-of-the-art Design Studio and enjoyed a delicious paella feast.

The next day, we had round table discussions and speeches from current MMG managers. Pictured is High School winning Football Coach and Sales Director at Heritage Homes, Troy Mattern, with Beth Byrd, who was leading sales at Beacon Homes at the time and is now managing sales and speaking at Builder conventions for Anewgo. They gave excellent speeches with real-world coaching principles and tips.

New Home Leadership Community

We learned from each other and had fun, but most importantly, we started to form a community within our industry, and formed friendships that still last to this day. Over the years, here are the builders and locations we have visited:

  1. Eagle Construction of VA, Richmond, VA
  2. Heritage Homes, Fargo, ND
  3. Hunter Quinn Homes, Charleston, SC
  4. Stevens Fine Homes, Wilmington, NC
  5. Chesapeake Homes, Coastal Virginia and The Carolinas

This year in October, we will be visiting The Gove Group Real Estate in picturesque Portsmouth, New Hampshire, just in time to enjoy the beautiful autumnal orange and red leaves changing.  Interestingly, the Granite State is one of the healthiest new home markets in the Country. The Gove Group, led by owners Elizabeth Markey and Alexx Monastiero, represents many builders of all types and sizes, boasting yearly sales of just over 300 million with an average price of $800,000!  In 2024, they accomplished $258 million in total sales volume! I can’t wait to put on a sweater, enjoy the scenery, and look at their model homes, while learning about their marketing machine. Also, I am excited about enjoying some fresh New England Seafood, overlooking the Bay in Portsmouth, with our fellow Management Mastermind peeps.

Special thanks to my long-suffering remote manager, Abi Licatino, who was there from the beginning and has helped strategize how to make this group a success. For those who don’t know, Abi is also my baby sister, and she has been on every call to hotels, caterers, and bus companies and is the linchpin for the success of our mastermind group. Lastly, a special thank you to each of the managers and their teams who helped make each of our visits such a success.

What Our Masterminds Are Saying

JENNA PARKER, J.D.

Director of Sales/Broker, Stevens Fine Homes

“Being a part of the New Home Sales + Management Mastermind group for the last 5 years has been incredibly valuable.  The ability to regularly brainstorm with other professionals, share knowledge and learn from and glean advice from others has saved a lot of time, energy, and money for my company.  It has allowed us to quickly determine and implement the best solution to problems or obstacles when they arise, as more often than not, someone else the group has faced a similar situation and is willing and able to share their experience.  The best practices of our company have improved due to the inspiration found from other builders.”

TERRI SMITH

Director of Customer Experience, Bosgraaf Homes

I don’t know what I would do without Roland’s Mastermind Group! The opportunity to discuss best practices and brand-new practices with some of the best and brightest minds throughout our industry is invaluable. Even the most experienced New Home Sales Managers and Owners need training and assistance, especially with a market like ours that is evolving and shifting so quickly. Why weather the storm on your own, when you can glean wisdom from experienced Mastermind Members, including great tips about what works and doesn’t work when managing people, and trying out new tech.”
